My research project Fall 2015
My undergraduate research project for my Senior year is to investigate
the hypotheses that Papago Park, the head of Camelback Mountain and Tempe
Butte are all part of the same debris flow pattern. This hypothesis is
generally accepted within the community and studies have been done by
numerous geologists including but not limited to Troy Pewe, Steve
Reynolds and Julia Johnson. Steve Reynolds suggests that as the area
experienced crustal extension, the blocks of land faulted and broke apart.
As the blocks moved, debris filled in the gaps which later solidified.
I am planning on testing provenance for the conglomerate and sandstone
structures, creating and comparing stratigraphic columns, refining maps
and comparing strike and dip patterns and reconstructing paleo-flow
