Samantha's main source of experience with event planning and promoting has been her membership in Alpha Kappa Psi. AKPsi puts on many professional, philanthropic and social events, which provides her with ample opportunity to enhance her abilities.
To begin with, Samantha, along with the rest of her pledge class, was required to
execute a picnic for the Arizona Association of
Foste
r and Adoptive Parents. This organization supports families who have taken in children that were formerly with Child Protective Services. The picnic, which is done by every pledge class, is a chance for the kids to play and have fun while the parents relax and network. While we planned the picnic, we essentially ran our own non-profit organization. We were responsible for acquiring all our donations and sponsorships as well as making sure the picnic went smoothly the day of. Thanks to many generous companies in our community, we obtained numerous opportunities for fun and games and members of AKPsi and AZAFAP alike had a wonderful day at this amazing event.
Samantha also learns through her job at the ASU Alumni Association. Although she does not actively participate in the planning she has caught on to many of the techniques used by the Alumni Association and is able to gain knowledge through obersvation and assisting with minor details.
Samantha will also be planning and implementing her own (hopefully) large-scale event. As an honors student, she is required to do an Honors Thesis or project. Because of the excellerated nature of her coursework, Samantha will be doing this project next year instead of her senior year. To keep within the bounds of her major, Samantha will be devising a fundraising event. With the help of her thesis director and committee, she will actualize this plan next spring.
