Hello and welcome. My name is Shade Shutters. I recently completed a Ph.D. through the School of Life Sciences at ASU where I am a member of the ecoSERVICES Group under Drs. Ann Kinzig and Charles Perrings, and where I will officially graduate in December, 2009. My dissertation research focused on the evolution of cooperation and related questions regarding the emergence of sociality, institutions, and social networks. Further, it explored practical applications of the topic to the field of sustainability, particularly international institutions that facilitate the provisioning of global public goods.

Currently I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Applied Economics Department at the University of Vigo (Spain), with Dr. Julia Touza, studying the economic impacts of various invasive species mitigation policies. My primary research method is computational social simulation or agent-based modelling.

My graduate work was funded through the gracious support of (1) ASU, through a three year fellowship from the IGERT in Urban Ecology, and (2) the National Science Foundation, through a three year predoctoral fellowship.

Before arriving at ASU, I worked for several years in international finance and management of multinational strategic partnerships. I am a Certified Management Account and am also certified in SQL database programming. I received an honors B.S. in finance from Indiana University in 1990.
