Scholder, Fritz. Tarot. No. 27 of 50. Tempe: Nomadic P, 1987. Five images by Scholder on 2 ½" x 4 3/4" tarot cards. Signed. 2 copies.
Scholder, Fritz. Cordiale IV: Words and Etchings by Fritz Scholder. No. 2 of 12 copies. [n.p.]: Old Scratch Bookworks, 1994. Signed & numbered by Scholder.
This is a modern rendition of a popular late
medieval devotional genre on the subject of death. The
"Cordiale" is an anonymous treatise of religious
instruction on Death, the Last Judgement, Hell, and Heaven. There may have been many
earlier editions recorded of this work, but it
is possible that this is the only edition printed in the
twentieth century. Scholder brings a more secular approach to
this subject in this series of chine-colle etchings, each
one of which is accompanied by a blank-verse
"meditation" . The chine-colle process .............
Bound in full black leather, it is one of only 12 copies
Scholder, Fritz. Dreamer. Scottsdale: Apocrypha P, 1994. One of 50 copies.
Scholder, Fritz. May 1995 Be Good For You. [Scottsdale]: Apocrypha P, 1994. Single page, 5"x7" print on handmade paper. 2 copies.
Scholder, Fritz and Leonard Baskin. A Book of Plains Indians: Monotypes and Words. [Easthampton, MA]: Gehenna P, 1994. Signed by both authors.
This book is the result of the collaboration
between Fritz Scholder and Leonard Baskin during the
Spring of 1994. Both artists are well known for their
respective work depicting American Indians. In this
volume each artist strives to show the Sioux, Cheyenne
and the Crow both as victim and hero by creating a
series of seven original monotypes to illustrate the
selected brief texts they have written. The text was
printed by Carol Blinn using Czech and Japanese
handmade papers. Bound by Claudia Cohen in full tan
leather, it is one of only 26 copies. This copy is signed
by both artists.
Scholder, Fritz. Esoterica. No. 16 of 24 copies. Scottsdale: Apocrypha P, 1995. Signed.
This volume contains an intriguing blend of texts
both ancient and modern, accompanied by drawings of
magic squares, signets against death, Satan, the sphinx
and more. It invites comparison with ancient alchemical
handbooks. Containing thirteen drawings in a variety of
colors, it includes relief engravings and printed
letterpress, all executed by Scholder at his private press.
Comprised of 30 leaves of various handmade papers,
most are printed upon one side only. Limited to 24
copies signed by the artist.
Scholder, Fritz. Fates Awaits. No. 15 of 26 copies. Scottsdale: Apocrypha P, 1995. Signed.
This is one of the most ambitious works
Scholder has issued from his private press. It contains
four large etchings of haunting images, with
accompanying text, which reveal his interest in the occult
... (and arcane?). Both text and images were printed on
one side only of each page, and it is bound in half brown
leather with paste-paper boards. Limited to 26 copies
signed by the artist.
Scholder, Fritz. Wishing You Good Days In 1996. Scottsdale: Apocrypha P [1996].
Scholder, Fritz. Eat & Drink. No. 18 of 26 copies. Scottsdale: Apocrypha P, 1997. Signed.

variety of sources, including "The Art of Cookery"
published in London in 1774. Here you will find unusual
recipes for Mead, Stone Chicken, Flaming Fish,
Margarita (the way it was intended), Witches Foam and
more. It is illustrated with engravings of culinary
subjects and printed on an assortment of handmade
papers of various colors, interleaved with handmade
Japanese paper. Limited to 26 copies.

This collection of random thoughts by the author spans several years of his life, from early childhood until the time when the book was published. The subjects are random, just as the title suggests. This edition is limited to 500 copies, printed by the Stinehour Press. A sample verse from this collection reads as follows:
"You know ... one night there
was an owl, right next to the [Photo]
house ... hooting."
"All night they say he hooted."
"Fritzie ... that means something."
Scholder, Fritz. An Address Given by Fritz Scholder: On the Occasion of the 1983 College of Fine Arts Commencement Convocation, May 12, 1983. [1 sheet; 47 x 31 cm.] Ltd. to 150 copies. Tempe: Pyracantha P, 1983.

Scholder, Fritz. Afternoon Nap. Images and poem by Scholder.
Munich: Nazraeli P, 1991. Limited edition of 2000
copies. Book is accordian fold in plastic cover.
Fritz Scholder created this book in collaboration with Nazraeli Press in 1991. Afternoon Nap has been hailed not only for the power of its images and text but for its imaginative use of materials and unusual binding. It features text by Scholder as well as 36 four-color reproductions of his paintings and lithographs. The result is a hand-finished accordian bound artist's book in a translucent, corrugated plastic slipcase.
1991, 46 p. 13 x 15 cm. ISBN 3-923922-03-5.
Scholder, Fritz. Live Dog/Evil God. No. 26 of 50. Munich: Nazraeli P, 1992. Each lithograph signed. 2 copies.
Live Dog/Evil God is a verbal and visual
exploration of man's relationship with his self, his god(s)
and his fellow creatures. Scholder created 10 cliche-verres, or glass plates for this book. The plates were
then printed by James Hajicek, an ASU professor of fine
arts, using the kallitype process, on paper sensitized with
a ferric salt, with silver-nitrate as a developer. They are
reproduced in duotone to match the original Van Dyke
prints. ??? This features a hand-sewn coptic binding
and this first printing was limited to 2000 copies.
Scholder, Fritz. Fritz Scholder's Book of Symbols for Children. No. 5 of 50. Includes bronze sculpture of Runic Symbol. Munich: Nazraeli P, 1994. Two copies.
This children's book contains 36 stick-and-ink
drawings of symbols both common and rare. A short
text provides an introduction to the history of symbols
and encourages young readers to practice drawing the
symbols themselves, learning what they mean and why.
But this is more than merely a children's book; it can also
be appreciated by adults who collect Scholder's works.
Shown here is the special edition of 50 copies
accompanied by an original bronze figure. The 5"
bronze figure, signed and numbered by the artist, is
enclosed with the book in a clamshell box.

Scholder, Fritz. Fritz Scholder: Major Indian Paintings. Santa Fe: Wheelwright Museum, 1977.
This exhibition catalog celebrates the artist's first
"Indian Series," a series begun in 1967 and continuing to
the date of the exhibition in May, 1977. Included are 24
full-page reproductions, arranged in chronological order,
depicting the artist's development of the theme.
Scholder has stated that he felt so unsure about the
identification of this painting that he stenciled the word
"INDIAN" on the canvas. [clarify this] By 1972 the artist
had painted more than 300 canvasses dedicated to this
overall theme, but with many variations, including
Monster Indians, Indians on Horses, and the Indian
Postcards.

Scholder, Fritz. Fritz Scholder: Paintings and
Monotypes. Altadena, CA: Twin Palms, 1988.
This collection of paintings, which was issued 10
years ago, provides an interesting selection from
the artist's work in monotypes. John Wilmerding,
Deputy Director of the National Gallery of Art in
Washington, D.C., has written an introduction to
this collection of paintings, and states "In looking
at the course of his art over several decades, we
can see his admiration for both older masters as
well as contemporary colleagues. ... Yet to cite
these names is not to find Scholder derivative of
the past, but purposeful and creative in his
transforming of admired precedents. ... As a
creative artist he continues to extend rather than
repeat himself, keeping an outer eye on the
living and an inner eye on the legendary."

Scholder, Fritz. Rot-Red. With an essay by Thomas Zacharias. Munich: Nazraeli P, 1995. 2 copies.
Fritz Scholder's rapid rise to fame in the late
1960s was sparked by his passionate paintings of
American Indians created while he was an instructor at
the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe.
Rot/Red documents his decision to re-examine the
subject of the American Indian, a theme that has inspired
him at various stages in his professional career. In this
work German art historian Thomas Zacharias discusses
several of Scholder's paintings in detail, and attempts to
put his career into historical perspective???. Text in
English and German.
