Who's Tom?
Senior broadcaster Tom Miller provides exciting play-by-play action for the Sun Devil nation on Cox and Quest digital cable in addition to the web. Miller, now in his final season as the voice of ASU hockey, joined the team in the summer of 2008. In addition to the Sun Devils, Miller also does hockey play-by-play for the Arizona Redhawks, plus football and volleyball for the iBN Sports Broadcasting Network.
Miller's past two off-seasons were spent in San Jose, Calif. interning for the San Jose Sharks. He originally joined the organization working in the internet services department where he wrote articles for sjsharks.com, filmed multiple player interviews and news packages, and helped maintain the company's websites (sjsharks.com, strikeforce.com, and sapopentennis.com).
A year later Miller was invited back by the Sharks, this time joining the broadcasting department. Miller returned to San Jose as the personal intern for Sharks Radio Play-By-Play Announcer Dan Rusanowsky, an announcer whom Miller grew up listening to and idolizing.
After anchoring a student produced half-hour newscast as a freshman at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, Miller looked to develop a multi-platform broadcast of Sun Devil hockey. With the backing Sun Devil Television, Miller was hired by ASU hockey upon the completion of his freshman year. Before the start of the upcoming season, he had organized a seven-man broadcast team ranging from color commentators to intermission analysts.
The broadcast had a successful inaugural season and was picked up by Cox digital cable, Quest digital cable, and Fasthockey.com the following season.
In the spring of 2010, Miller and three of his Cronkite classmates won a Telly award for the documentary Healing Reigns. He served as a producer, videographer, and reporter for the student produced film.
Miller also serves as an anchor and reporter for Cronkite Newswatch, a student produced newscast that consistantly wins top honors as the best collegiate newscast in the nation.
