The erosion rate at the Salt Verde confluence is significantly higher (more than an order of magnitude) than the erosion rate found on the Mesa terrace near ASU whose erosion rate is ~3.7 x 10 (-5) m/yr. This may be due to the increased erosive power of the river at the the confluence or the higher topography near the Salt Verde confluence may concentrate runoff and thus increase rates of erosion. At this rate, the Salt River near ASU will be approximate 37 m deeper in 1 million years.
