The Glassblowing Facility offers a comprehensive course in
scientific glassblowing for graduate students in Chemistry. The
course is designed to allow each student to learn basic
glassworking techniques that will enable them to do repairs and
simple glassware constructions in the laboratory. Many research
groups within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
use extensive amounts of glassware to facilitate their research.
After completion of the course, each student has a more
complete understanding of the skills involved in scientific
glassblowing.

Class size is limited to 8 students per semester. This small class
size allows intensive one-on-one instruction by the two
instructors.

The laboratory manual for CHM-593 Applied Project -
Glassblowing has been compiled from many sources throughout
the years. The techniques demonstrated in the manual and taught
in the course are considered the "classic" method of
glassblowing.
