ENG
329 (73566), 394 (09403): Fall 2002 Password
protecting a web folder
To password protect a folder
on your website is not difficult, but includes four basic steps:
- Creating the
folder
- Creating a ".nsconfig"
file
- Creating a ".passwd"
file
- Publishing
it all (new folder and files contained, and the two files
mentioned above).
1. Creating a folder to be secured
i. Open Dreamweaver's Site management window (the one that is
divided into two parts, used to transfer files to the Web).
In this case I am going to create a secure folder (which I will
call "secure") directly under the root directory (main
web site).
2. Point at the root directory (selected above)
and RIGHT click. A menu will open up. Select the option "New
folder." A new folder will be created (it will first be
called "untitled" but you will be able to rename it
anything you want. I am naming this folder "secure."
3. You have now created the
folder that will be password protected. You can now proceed
to the next step: Creating a ".nsconfig"
file
