Password protecting a web folder

To password protect a folder on your website is not difficult, but includes four basic steps:

  1. Creating the folder
  2. Creating a ".nsconfig" file
  3. Creating a ".passwd" file
  4. Publishing it all (new folder and files contained, and the two files mentioned above).

1. Creating a folder to be secured
i. Open Dreamweaver's Site management window (the one that is divided into two parts, used to transfer files to the Web). In this case I am going to create a secure folder (which I will call "secure") directly under the root directory (main web site).Create a folder 1

2. Point at the root directory (selected above) and RIGHT click. A menu will open up. Select the option "New folder." A new folder will be created (it will first be called "untitled" but you will be able to rename it anything you want. I am naming this folder "secure."

Create folder 2

3. You have now created the folder that will be password protected. You can now proceed to the next step: Creating a ".nsconfig" file
