101 PRS POLICIES

You will use your PRS transmitter to answer Multiple Choice
questions during the lecture period. Some questions will
just be for practice, or used to measure the initial class
knowledge of a topic; those questions will have time limits
of 30-45 seconds. Other answers will be graded; those
questions will have time limits of 60 seconds. You may
always discuss the question with the students seated nearby,
but the answer that you enter should always be your own.
Correct answers will receive 3 points and incorrect answers
will receive 2 points; so there is a very small penalty for
an incorrect answer. You will need a small hand calculator
to answer some quiz questions; please bring one to each
lecture.

For the first week, all PRS questions will be considered
practice questions, as you learn to use your PRS transmitters.
Beginning Tue. Sept. 5, at least some PRS questions will be <== moved from 8/29
graded. because of bookstore
                                                                 clicker shortage
The registration deadline for your PRS clicker is 5 PM,
Fri. Sept 8. After that time, you will not receive credit <== moved from 9/01
for PRS questions answered prior to your successful because of bookstore
registration. Before that time, I will go back and see that clicker shortage
you get credit for all PRS questions answered, even if they
were answered before you were successfully registered.

There are expected to be at least 125 graded PRS questions
over the course of the semester, so about 375 PRS points
will be possible. However, 335 PRS points (or about 90%
of all possible PRS points should there be more or less
than 125 questions) are all that are required to receive
an overall PRS grade of 100%; i.e. your PRS percentage is
your total PRS points divided by 3.35 with a maximum of
100%. Your PRS percentage for the semester will count 10%
of your overall class grade.

Since you only have to get 90% of all possible PRS points
in order to receive a PRS grade of 100%, there are no
make ups for missed PRS questions for any reason. Exception:
ONCE (and only once) during the semester, you may report to
me by email that you were present in lecture but that you
did not receive the proper amount of PRS points (perhaps
you forgot your clicker or forgot to check the batteries).
Just tell me in the email how many PRS points you deserved
for that day and I will give you credit. You may only do
this ONCE, and I must receive your email within one school
day of the relevant lecture.

YOU MUST USE ONLY THE TRANSMITTER THAT YOU REGISTER AND
NO OTHER. Use of another student's transmitter is a case of
academic dishonesty, just exactly like cheating on a test.
Any and all students involved in any such incidents will
automatically receive an E for the course, and may be
referred to the Dean for further sanctions.
