REGISTERING FOR MASTERING PHYSICS

                 USERS WITH ACTIVE ACCOUNTS

Login under the same label that you used previously (either
Stand Alone or Young and Freedman 11th Edition). You will then
be given the opportunity to register for a new class. The class
code is MPADAMS0012. Don't forget to USE YOUR ASU POSTING ID
for your student ID number. If you use anything else for your
student ID number, then your MP grade will never be transferred
  properly to my gradebook.

                         NEW USERS

IMPORTANT: BE SURE TO USE YOUR ASU POSTING ID when asked
to enter your "Student ID number".
What if I don't know my POSTING ID?

To sign up for Mastering Physics, you will need the 6-word
Registration Code that comes with the Mastering Physics Packet
packaged with your textbook. If you have purchased a new
textbook (from the bookstore) that is not packaged with
Mastering Physics, take your receipt to the Customer Service
Desk at the bookstore and ask for Paula Bryant.) If you have
purchased a used textbook, then you will have to purchase
Mastering Physics separately. The bookstore may have a few
of these. You should also be able to use a credit card at the
  Mastering Physics web site.

To sign up, you will need to go to masteringphysics.com
and then go through the registration process for the
version you have purchased (either the Young-and-Freedman
12th edition version or the Stand-Alone version will work
for our class). Once you are registered, then go through
the logon process for the version you have purchased. At
this point, the program will ask you for an identification
code for our class. This code is (AKA the Course ID)

                      MPADAMS0012

It will also ask for your student ID number. BE SURE
TO USE YOUR ASU POSTING ID, in the form 1234-567.

                       TIPS ON SUBMITTING
             HW ASSIGNMENTS WITH MASTERING PHYSICS

Please, never use your browser's BACK button in the
middle of an Mastering Physics session. The system is
designed to only move in the forward direction.

The way things are set up at this time, you will have
four opportunities to answer each part of each problem
(you will get six tries for the first one or two
assignments and this number will gradually be reduced
over the course of the semester, as you get accustomed
  to MP).

There will be a wrong answer penalty of 3% per
wrong answer (we will begin with 0% wrong answer penalty
and gradually move to 2% and then 3%, as you get
  accustomed to MP).

Always use three significant figures in your
numerical answers (unless the program gives other
instructions for a particular problem). Numerical
answers must be correct to within 2%.

Please note that the MP problem numbers may not
always correspond to the problem numbers in the 12th
  edition of Young and Freedman.

TIPS FOR USING THE SYMBOLIC ANSWER ENTRY FORMAT:

To escape from superscript or subscript mode, use the
  rightarrow (→) key.

If you type an expression, but forget to put part of
it in parentheses, highlight the relevant part and
then select parentheses from the math palette.
