For Active Learning, the ideal is that

"Class time is spent on collaborative activities in
small, assigned teams".

For Fall 2020, our classes are going to be entirely remote.
So our "collaborative activities" will consist mostly of
working together on our Mastering Physics HW problems, with
lots of Learning Catalytics questions (many more than we
would usually have in an in-person class).

The "small, assigned teams," which we would have been
using had we been meeting in person, will be replaced with
Slack private channels. I expect that you will be able to
use those Slack private channels (to which you will be
assigned eventually) for the purpose of discussing the
Learning Catalytics questions, and the HW problems that
we are working on, with your Slack teammates during our
Zoom classes.

Our class should be rather small, so I expect that you
will be allowed to unmute your microphone and ask questions
at any time during class. Also, I expect that we will have
a Learning Assistant (LA) as a co-host for each class; if
you prefer, you should always be able to ask the LA a
question during class via private chat on Zoom.

In in-person Active Learning, "You will, at times, be
required to report your team's findings to the entire
class." In an in-person class, your team, when called
on, must show their whiteboard work for a particular
problem, and explain the work to the entire class.
We won't try to have a remote version of this aspect
of Active Learning in Fall 2020.

  Thanks, GBA.
