Lois Lowry was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 20, 1937. She later moved all around, New York, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, and even Tokyo. She attended Brown University in Rhode Island, and University of Southern Marine. After that she finally began writing professionally, which was a life long dream for her. Number the Stars received the Newberry Medal Award in 1990. Lowry has written several other books including, The Giver, and Autumn Street, along with a long list of others.
