WebQuest for Speak- Laurie Halse Anderson

Laurie Halse Anderson, author of Speak, was born on October 23, 1961 in northern New York. She attended Onondaga Community College for two years and later transferred to Georgetown University in 1981, graduating from there in 1984 with a Bachelor’s degree in Languages and Linguistics. Laurie married Greg Anderson, and in 1985 they gave birth to a beautiful daughter Stephanie Holcomb; then, in 1987 Meredith Lauren was born.

Laurie began her career as an author of three picture books: No Time For Mother’s Day (1998), Turkey Pox (1996), and Ndito Runs (1996).  Her first novel is Speak, which has been nominated for the 1999 National Book Award for Young People's Literature, Printz Honor and Top 10 First Novels of 1999, and many more.  Now after writing Speak, Laurie has become a very successful author. Her other books include: Fever 1793 (2000), The Big Cheese on Third Street (2001), Catalyst (2002), Thank You Sarah! (2002), Wild at Heart (2003), and Prom (2005).
