The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

by Ann Brashares

Ann Brashares grew up with three brothers in Chevy Chase, Maryland.  She went to a Quaker school in the Washington D.C. area called Sidwell Friends.  When she went to college she went to part of Columbia University in New York called Barnard College.  She studied Philosophy there.  After she graduated she took a job as an editor.  She had hoped to go to graduate school after a year of being an editor, but she loved it so much she did not want to quit.  After being an editor for years she decided to become a full-time writer.  She published her first book The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in 2001.   She recently published The Second Summer of the Sisterhood in 2003.  She also plans to continue with a third and possibly fourth Sisterhood book.

Currently she lives in Brooklyn, New York.  She is married to an artist named Jacob Collins.  They have three children, Sam, Nathaniel, and Susannah, the youngest.
