I have been on the faculty at ASU since 2004, tenured in 2010. I believe in creating challenging learning experiences for my students that prepares them for industry, the profession, and life. I do this through hands-on, project-based teaching in the Software Enterprise, use-inspired applied research (particularly in e-Learning and healthcare), and applying industry best practices in the classroom. My primary area is "Software Engineering", but my interests vary from enterprise computing to mHealth to agile and open source software engineering.
Academics always refer to their duties as "Teaching, Research, and Service", and so you will find the customary navigation titles to your left. But that is never how I view my activities. Rather, I try to always be Innovating and Learning, whether doing so in the context of research, teaching, entrepreneuring, consulting, (walking, talking, breathing...). And I greatly enjoy doing these with others; in fact I find it a necessary component of reaching my goals for these activities.
Currently I am most active in the areas of mobile health (mHealth), Agile and Open Source Software, and Software Engineering Education. Active research projects are described on my research page. I welcome motivated graduate students to come by and speak with me about ways to get involved.
