Crossing the Valley:

From Russia to the United States: Dmitri's Migration Story

Introduction

by Kerri Bastin

The person I am interviewing is Dmitri Krassotkine. He is an immigrant from Moscow, Russia, who moved here in 1992 to go to school at Arizona State University. I first met Dmitri four or five years ago through my husband at a Phoenix Suns game. They work together at American Express. I believe Dmitri is a project manager there. We have since met with him several times with him and his wife Nina, who is also Russian. The interview was arranged by my husband. For a meeting place we decided on the sushi restaurant RA at Kierland Commons in Scottsdale. It was just Dmitri, my husband and I. Dmitri is very entertaining to talk to. He likes to go out and go to parties, and is very interested in music and Italian designers. He travels to Europe often and always has good stories of his journeys. He seems to prefer the Mediterranean, visiting the south of France and Spain. It was very easy to interview him, and it did not take much to get him to open up and talk.
