Family Object
(El Balero)

The only object which I could find to represent my family’s migration story was the Balero. It is a Mexican toy that has been around for a long time. This toy often has to be made by the child depending on their family’s economic status. Unfortunately I have lost and forgotten the skill of using the Balero and have become more “Americanized”. Although my father is still very talented when it comes to play with the bolero. My family and I are from a border town three hours from here, it is called Nogales Sonora Mexico. My family and I are first generation here; we migrated in the summer of 1990. We immigrated here because of the work opportunities that this country offers and a better future for me and my siblings.
