Evidence of my family's migration to the United States

Tracing my family heritage has always been a goal of mine, but with the dysfunctional and severed family that I have, I thought it would be near impossible.  This assignment gave me the opportunity to speak with an aunt that I have not seen or heard of in nearly ten years.  After an hour of “catching up,” my aunt was able to send me an article of my great grandfather’s reunion with his brother sixty-three years after arriving in the United States.

The article, reporting mainly on their reunion, does give some important of my ancestor’s heritage that I was not aware of.  First I learned that my great grandfather on my father’s side came to the United States in 1905.  My ancestors migrated from Flores, Azores.  These tiny islands are located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and were colonized by Portugal in 1439.  Their reasons for migration are still a mystery, but further investigation may unlock these clues.
