OPEN LETTER

Dear society,

I am Gabriele Di Eugenio, a student of a “Migration and Culture” class. In my class this semester, throughout videos, guest speakers, articles, books, events, fieldtrip a learned a lot about an issue than it’s around us but it seems like we don’t want to accept it: immigration. Being an immigrant myself, I never saw it as a problem or something to be discriminated about. I guess many of you love Italians; but clearly not too may people love Mexicans or immigrants in general. Dealing with this topic for a whole semester made me feel lucky; going on a fieldtrip to Mexico made me want to help immigrants; and this web page is my chance to spread out my wish. I thought moving to another place was because people wanted a better life; after this semester I understood it’s not a matter of “want”, but some people “need” to live a better life than what they live now!

People will keep migrating to the U.S. no matter what, nothing will stop globalization to happen; that’s why I think it will make it easier on every one if we would accept the fact that our society is made by different people.

We should have compassion about these immigrants that live an unfair life since the day they were born. They’re mistreated in the process of coming here, and keep on being mistreated by us. On top of that they have to build a family and make a living.

I don’t think that it takes too much effort for our society to accept immigrants as regular people, but it will be a major step for them to feel comfortable in their lives.
