Return to Jenni's Homepage | It all started when my grandfather's little brother was in High School and got a scholarship to come to America his graduate year. A guest speaker chose him and two other people to come and go to law school in America. So he came and studied hard. He became a lawyer a few years later and then invited my grandfather and great grandfather to come to America as well because the lumber business that my grandfather was doing was not doing so well at the time. My great grandfather, grandfather, and grandmother came to America with my dad, mom, uncle and aunts in 1974. They started a life in America and began their journey to where they are right now. the artifacts that I chose to show are symbols of what the traditional Korean attire would be for marriage. They are called hanboks and are usually worn for special occasions. They can range anywhere from 200 to 1000 dollars. Not only are they worn for weddings but many other special occasions. Like when a baby is 100 days old, the parents will dress them up in a little hanbok, or when you want to respectfully address someone, you can wear the hanbok. |
