Return to Flory's Page | Presentation on the history of my family's migration I was born on January 8, 1973 in Phoenix, Arizona to the parents of Reverend Joseph William Holmes and Juanita Laverne Holmes. I am the youngest of five children. I have lived in Arizona all my life. The only states I have visited are Ohio, California, and Michigan. I have always enjoyed learning new things. I have always challenged myself. When I was in elementary school, I got enough courage to enter the school’s spelling bee and I won. That year and the next I went to the state’s final and the second time I placed fourth. From that point on I continued to excel. I was the valedictorian of my eighth grade class and of my high school class.
I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s degree in math and a minor in anthropology. I really enjoyed my studies in anthropology so I will most likely pursue a master’s degree in this subject. I have worked for a behavioral health agency and I am currently a substitute teacher . My ultimate goal is to one day go to Africa and study the culture of the people where my ancestors came from. I am going to live with them and see what it takes to adapt to another way of living. I will write a book about my experience. Some things I enjoy doing are shopping for clothes, watching professional basketball games on T.V., and playing with the family dog whose name is Brock..
