Border Justice

The Mending wall, which was displayed on Arizona State University's West campus in front of the Fletcher Library through out the week.

I visited La Sala on the ASU West campus on the 8th of April 2004 during our Migrants, Justice and the Border week to watch a movie about real people’s lives as immigrants. The movie was Border Crossings from Our Backyard.  The movie involved people in a class interviewing people around the community. Some of the people were family members and others were just people throughout their communities. The video short, but a little informative. Some of the interviews were quite funny and others were really serious. I was only able to stay for about half the movie because of another class. So I was only able to see about 4 or 5 interviews. The people really just talked about their lives and their parents’ lives as immigrants. They went into great detail about the early times as immigrants and about their travels to and throughout America. Most of the interviews were in Spanish, with subtitles at the bottom. I was sitting in the back and I have bad eyes so it was hard to read all or it.

Over all, the interviews were very interesting. The person that stuck out in my eyes was the bald, fat man. I think he was the third interview. When he first came to the U.S. he always thought he was a good student while in school, especially in spelling. He thought this because every one of his spelling tests, when he got them back, had checks next to all the words. In the school he went to while still living in Mexico checks by the words met they were right. HA HA HA HA HA
