“Just the Facts” about Businesses

West Side of South Central Avenue from Broadway to Elwood

One of our team projects was to do a survey on the businesses in our South Phoenix Study area. I wanted to a little more of an in depth analysis on the land ownership on this block on my own. I based the number of years from the Deed date.  I found the following information listed below very interesting:

1.    Total number of parcels:   25

2.    Empty Lots:   6
3.    Oldest Business same owner:
4.    Lots owned by women since 1984, total: 9
5.    One woman has owned 7 of these lots along Central since 1984
6.    Business in the survey with the most property is South Phoenix Market totaling 7 parcels.
7.    The Salvation Army owns 2 lots that provide AA meeting places for the community.
8.    Vanloo and Associates has two parcels
9.    The Dollar Store has 4 parcels, the store is vacant. This location will soon be a bus depot.
10.   One Cocktail Lounge since 1986

The maps below display owner information and aerial photo identifications:

Pete’s Fish & Chips Blooms’ Flowers & Mortuary

In summary I have provided a small sample of information on the businesses we studied, in an unusual format. I find it very interesting that the types of businesses that have the longest life in this area are the liquor store, and Blooms’ Flowers and Mortuary and of course, “Pete’s Fish & Chips.
