A Look Back at my Childhood

My memory map includes the house that I grew up in as well as the places I spent most of my time. I grew up in a house in Chandler, Arizona (at McClintock and Chandler Blvd.)  Me and my sister (who is two years younger than me) spent most of our time playing with our friends Tommy and Stacey. They were our best friends.  I also loved spending many evenings and weekends at my nammy and grampy’s house. They had a small farm and we were always over helping them take care of it. (I was raised on goats milk!)  We even had a pony named Tar-baby for a while that I loved to ride and take care of.

I attended Sureno Elementary school most of my school days.  It was very close to our house so I played there a lot after school.  My parents had their own arts and craft business when I was growing up so we were pretty much always home, if not at school or visiting our relatives.

We had many pets at our house, including dogs, ferrets, hamsters, rabbits, ducks, a big fish tank and a blue-fronted amazon (parrot). My mother loves animals and always taught me to as well. We also had a parrot named Marvin.  My mom got him before she had me from a pet store she worked at. She used to yell at me a lot when I was bad, so the bird learned my name. He would sporadically yell “Jill” whenever he wanted something. It became very annoying as I got older.

I have so many memories of our house, my sister to this day always brings up the time when she and I were riding our bikes around the neighborhood and I told her to run home and tell my mom that my bike had a flat tire and she ran her thigh into the license plate of our boat trailer and she cut herself so deep that she had to have stitches. It’s such a funny story today, but back then she hated me for it.

This is just a fraction of my childhood, but I think it represents a good portion of my memories.  It was however, a lot of fun reminiscing!
