 Lending a Hand

Deborah Jenkins

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit agency that was founded in 1979 by Millard and Linda Fuller. This agency helps people build their own home at an affordable price that they otherwise would not be able to do.

With over 1.2 million people in Arizona living in substandard housing Habitat for Humanity is striving to improve as many families' lives as they can. With each house costing around $75,000 the agency depends on donations, volunteer labor work, and fundraising events. The need for Habitat for Humanity is world wide and the more exposure this program gets the better the chances of it growing and helping more families.

When visiting Villas Esperanza and helping the other volunteers, I got just a small taste of the hard work these people do every day. Making dreams come true owning one’s own home is the gift that this program provides. The work was hard but the fulfillment I felt after being involved in this project was rewarding.
