Arizona State University SHESC

South America

In South America, SHESC archaeologists and bioarchaeologists conduct fieldwork in Peru, Chile and Bolivia, including the San Pedro de Atacama region, the Lake Titicaca Basin, the Osmore Drainage, and central Peru. Through archaeological and bioarchaeological field and laboratory work, they investigate topics as diverse as state formation, political integration and expansion, ritual activities, mortuary behavior, identity formation and manipulation, and host-pathogen co-evolution, with a focus on tuberculosis.
