The Nearby Field Galaxy Survey – acknowledgements

All observations for the Nearby Field Galaxy Survey were obtained at the 48'' and 60'' telescopes of the F.L. Whipple Observatory, which is part of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. Most of the reduction and analysis of the data was performed at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute of the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (the Netherlands) and at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (Cambridge, MA.). The NFGS web pages are presently hosted and maintained at the Arizona State University.

We thank the CfA TAC for generously allocating time for this project over three years initially, and for over two further years during which data for several of its extensions were acquired. We also thank the Vatican Observatory for granting time at the 1.8 m Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope for an ongoing program to image the star-forming galaxies within the NFGS in Hα.

This work would not have been possible without the financial support from the University of Groningen, the Smithsonian Institution, the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, the Leiden Kerkhoven-Bosscha Fund, the Netherlands Foundation for Scientific Research (NWO, SIR grant), and the European Union (TMR grant).
