    I. Class Objectives:

    The purpose of this class is to improve the students' communicative competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing. While class will still emphasize the students' oral skills, the class will have more activities geared toward making their Indonesian more formal by practicing to use complex sentences and complex grammatical items. In addition to attending the class, students are expected to do daily homework, attend weekly conversation hour, and participate in other outside class activities including PSEAS Open House.
    By the completion of the semester the students are expected to have communicative competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as grammatical and cultural knowledge and skills as described below.

1) Reading and Listening:

effective comprehension of short stories, a play or a dialogue (in print, life, audio, or video). 2) Writing and Speaking: write and express orally a summary of a readings, stories, personal experiences, descriptions of a place and a situation, and to present a skit and to write formal letters. 3) Grammar:

    understand and apply grammatical items, including:
    a) all major verb forms with various affixation
    b) complex sentences
    c) reduplication
    d) comparatives and superlatives
    e) all major noun forms with affixation

4) Culture:

    understand cultural aspects of language use and their application.

III.     Evaluation: Class participation and attendance     : 30 %
