ASU - INDONESIAN INSTITUTIONS EXCHANGE PROGRAM ON
CONFLICT RESOLUTION
OBJECTIVES
The purpose of this exchange project is to promote peaceful
conflict resolution in Indonesia by applying modern principles and techniques
in a multi-religious and multi-ethnic society in transition to democracy.
The US and Indonesian scholars and leaders will exchange knowledge, experience
and information on conflicts in Indonesia, implement the appropriate conflict
resolutions strategies, and actively involve the Indonesian participants in
conflict resolution activities.
Specifically, the participants from the institutions involved will accomplish
the followings goals:
1) The participants will gain information and theories on Indonesian and US
ethnic, cultural and religious issues as well as modern conflict resolution
principles and techniques.
2) The participants will generate mediation procedures and techniques and
develop a comprehensive training manual for effective and peaceful conflict
resolution activities in Indonesia.
3) The US participants will conduct training sessions for potential Indonesian
mediation trainers and mediators.
4) Each participating Indonesian institution will have active and sustainable
mediation centers.
5) Indonesian leadership skills in mediation and conflict resolution will
be continuously improved and passed on to future leaders in the local mediation
centers.
To achieve these objectives, our experienced team will effectively carry out
planned project activities as described in the Calendar
of Activities section.
