As a group, discuss the use of appeal to values. Use the following critera:
- Arguments of
value usually occur among members of groups that are formed on the basis of
shared principles.
- Appeals to
value usually involve a comparison between what is and what ought to be.
- A straightforward
form of value argument involves identifying one's own beliefs or practices
with well-accepted values.
- Many arguments
of value will fault something for not living up to the ideal, or will fault
the ideal.
