Magazine Assignment

Date due: April 30, 2006

Intercom is the official magazine of the Society for Technical Communication (STC), the world’s largest professional society for technical communicators. As a result, Intercom serves as the primary way through which individuals in industry share trends, information, and ideas with one another. Intercom also serves as the primary vehicle through which academics and researchers share theories, ideas, and approaches with individuals in industry.

For this assignment, you will draft an Intercom article about wikis in which you explain they can be applied to industry or to teaching practices in technical communication. Your article should therefore:

NOTE: You may not use the same concept/aspect/use of wikis that you used for your newsletter article

If you are not a TWC major:

Your article should be written for a magazine of a professional society or association related to your major. Please contact me by March 26th to discuss an appropriate magazine.

Format: Your article should be written using Microsoft Word, single-spaced (double-spaced between paragraphs), and 3-5 pages in length. Remember that readers of Intercom may have a wide range of experience and knowledge related to your topic and in relation to the field of technical communication in general. For this reason, your Intercom article should be drafted as if for a lay audience/an audience of non-experts. Also, as this article is for a magazine, you will NOT be required to cite sources or to provide a corresponding “Works Cited/References” page for this assignment; however, it should be well-researched and authoritative.

Submission: Email your article to me as an attachment or submit via the Digital Drop box in Blackboard by April 30th.
