Date due: March 5, 2006
You will draft a short newsletter article on the topic of wikis. Your article may be on any aspect of wikis but the topic must be appropriate for the audience of the newsletter you select.
If you are a TWC major:
This article should be written in a way that makes it suitable for publication in either the newsletter of the IEEE Professional Communication Society (PCS) – online at http://www.ieeepcs.org/activities_publications_newsletter.php – or the newsletters associated with the Society for Technical Communication (STC)’s Phoenix chapter (http://www.stc-phoenix.com/) or with any STC Special Interest Group (SIG), each of which focuses on a particular aspect of technical communication. (A listing of these SIGs and links to their related websites can be found at http://www.stc.org/sig_links.asp).
If you are not a TWC major:
you should select a professional society or association appropropriate for your major. Please contact me by February 5th to discuss an appropriate newsletter.
Format: The format and layout of your article should be based on the newsletter you select to write for, its audience, and your purpose. Remember that readers of newsletters have a wide and a varied range of experience with and knowledge about your particular topic. For this reason, your newsletter article should be drafted as if for an audience/an audience of non-experts. Since this is a newsletter article, you will not need to include a "works cited" page. However, your article should be authoritative and well-researched. Many newsletters also include a sidebar or box for "further reading."
Submission: Submit your article to me via email by March 5th (if you format your article as a website, send me the URL). In your message be sure to indicate the name of the newsletter for which the article has been written.
