Reading Responses

Each week, you will be responsible for completing the assigned readings and engaging in discussion responding to questions/prompts (note: readings and discussion will not be required during the weeks that other assignments are due). Reading responses will begin the second week of class.

Format: During the first week of class, you will vote on whether we will use the Blackboard discussion forum or the wiki for class discussion. There are advantages and disadvantages to using each technology so use your exploration of the wiki in week one to help you decide.

Submission: Posts should be completed by the Sunday of the week readings are assigned. However, you should consider the reading responses to be the equivalent to class discussion. That is, in addition to posting your own response to the readings you should also engage in replying to and "talking" with each other.

Grading: 5 pts per week

Your posts should demonstrate that you have completed and analyzed the readings in the context of the course. Posts which simply agree with responses from others or repeat what others have written without adding anything new to the discussion will receive a lower grade. The readings are intended to give you context and help you understand concepts or ideas. They should be used to provide evidence for your opinions, ask questions about the topic, or as launching points to expand your ideas and knowledge. Posts which state opinions without explanation or substantiation will receive a lower grade.
