NOTE: In reporting the averages from the test we drop
the lowest scores. This is because 20% (1 out
of 5) of all scores will eventually be dropped.
In comparing your average with the class average
you need to compare with an average which is
representative of the final average. Dropping
the lowest scores before reporting the average
is one way of ESTIMATING the effect of the final
drops. These posted test averages are not used
in any way in computing the final overall class
       average. GBA

Overall Pre-Exam Average

109 students have taken four or more tests and have more
than 600 HW points. For these 109 students, the
     overall averages are

                     % points

      test 63.09 37.86

                       or 66.1% <-- Predicted Pre-Exam Average

Assuming an average of 65 on the final, or 13 out of
20 points, results in a predicted overall average of 65.9.
With this predicted average a POSSIBLE breakdown of grades
would be:

                50.6 - 60.5 D
                60.6 - 71.0 C
                71.1 - 81.0 B

You should figure your pre-exam total then figure how many
exam points (out of 20 possible) you need to get the grade
that you want. Remember that the true final grade scale
ultimately depends on overall class exam performance. Also,
the final grade scale will be selected so as to find gaps
in the final grade distribution.

FINAL EXAM

115 students took the final exam. For those 115
students the final exam average is

            24.28 out of 40, or 60.70%.

FINAL AVERAGE

108 students took four or more tests plus the final exam
and had more than 600 HW points (there were 7 students
who took the final exam who either did not take four
or more tests or else who had less than 600 HW points).

for those 108 here are the averages:

                     % points

      test 63.65 38.19

overall 65.4 (out of 100) <-- Final Average

The final grade scale was selected so as to find gaps
in the grade distribution. Here is that final scale:

        44.3 - 58.1 D
        58.2 - 70.8 C (above 68.0 is C+)
        70.9 - 81.9 B (below 72.1 is B-, above 76.9 is B+)
        82.0 and up A (below 84.8 is A-, above 92.3 is A+)

Letter grades were assigned strictly according to this
scale. The highest E is 42.7, the lowest D is 44.3; the
highest D is 57.1, the lowest C is 58.2; the highest C
is 69.2, the lowest B is 70.9; the highest B is 80.6,
and the lowest A is 82.0. The smallest gap between
levels is 1.1 points between D to C.

who took four or more tests plus the final exam, and had
at least 600 HW points.
