Glenn Hackbarth: spiked percussion electronics
There are two options available to the performer for acquiring the necessary materials to perform Spiked:
Materials can be downloaded from the website at no charge.
Download the score here: Performance Score. Note that this score is a higher quality PDF that the perusal score and will produce a significantly better print .
The score is designed to be printed on legal size paper at a print setting to "fill the entire page." The resulting print is generally a bit small to be easily read and it is recommended that the print copy then be duplicated onto a heavier stock, 11 by 17 paper at 110% enlargement. This can be cut down to approximately 9.5 by 15. It is also possible to tape two pages together to achieve a larger part (19 by 15) and minimize page turns.
The electronics for this work consist of computer software written in the Max/MSP/Jitter application. The equipment needed to perform Spiked is a computer with an audio interface and a footpedal. The latter can be either a standard footpedal routed to the punch-in of an audio interface or any MIDI pedal routed through an appropriate MIDI interface/device to the computer. For information regarding footpedal options, click here. You do not need to own the Max/MSP/Jitter application to run the software but you will need to download and install the free
runtime component.
