E. What/who is key constituency or audience?
Fair the organization tends to lean to the right in terms of the
laws and views concerning immigration. However, their website
states, “With more than 198,000 members and supporters nationwide,
FAIR is a non-partisan group whose membership runs the gamut from
liberal to conservative. Our grassroots networks help concerned
citizens use their voices to speak up for effective, sensible
immigration policies that work for America’s best interests.”
F. What are the agency’s main activities?
FAIR’s publications and research is used by academics and government
officials in preparing new legislation on im/migration. FAIR claims
that the U.S. Congress uses their research more then any other

border security, to stop illegal immigration, and to promote
immigration levels consistent with the national interest—more
traditional rates of about 300,000 a year.

available; use quotation marks!)

and to promote immigration levels consistent with the national
interest—more traditional rates of about 300,000 a year.”
H. What are the key im/migration issues of concern to this
agency?
Fair is concerned with border security, stopping the illegal flow of
immigrates entering the country from are Southern border, and they
promote a traditional form/rate of immigrants entering the country.
I. As best as you can determine, on what
evidence/sources/research/community does this agency base its
informational statements issued, press releases, reports, etc.?
Fair prides itself on being a grass roots organization, compiled of
a vast network of professionals and government officials. The data
and information provided by Fair is a collection of data compiled by
its members and the sum of this collection is released in an annual
report.
J. Any publications? (what types, sample titles; if online,
give links)
Fair for the past 26 years has come out with annual report
concerning im/migration. All of these annual reports can be found
at, http://www.fairus.org.

K. Give at least one citation about this agency from a
newspaper article (preferably an Arizona newspaper). Use a citation
index to research this e.g., Lexis Nexis, available from the
Migration Course Web Page made by the Fletcher Library:
http://library.west.asu.edu/subjects/SOC/soc331.html Briefly
state what the article is about, and provide a quote from the
article that includes the agency’s name and gives a good idea of
this agency’s perspective on im/migration. Note: not a quote from
agency’s own web site!
The article titled, The Nation; States Take on Border Issues, was
written by Nicholas Riccardi, a Times staff Writer. This article
tries and explains the new ideas concerning ways in which the U.S.
can strengthen the Southern Border and how to try and discourage
illegal immigration.
“This year, the proposals include cutting off benefits to illegal
immigrants, allowing local police to identify those in the country
illegally and, in Arizona, sending National Guard troops to secure
the Mexican border”. "You can say it's a federal problem all you
want, but the truth is it's in your backyard so the problem's
yours," said Susan Tully of the Federation for American Immigration
Reform, an advocacy group that seeks to reduce illegal immigration.
L. Any other issues of interest about the agency?
Increasingly, the research, data and arguments that have been
developed and disseminated by FAIR over the past 25 years have
become part of the mainstream discussion of immigration policy in
the U.S.
M. Is the agency noticeably pro or con immigration? (You may
need to determine this from “reading around” in its position papers,
press releases, news reports, etc)
Fair promotes a sensible approach to immigration. What this means is
that they do support some immigration based on a yearly limit of
immigrants entering the country (300,000).
