Interview at McDonalds: The Jesus Medina Story

Hi, my name is Jesus Medina. I am a Mexican immigrant who is here legally. I am originally from Mexico City, Mexico. I was born in the year 1970. I came over when I was about 10 years old. I currently Mother and two sisters. My sisters are 2 years older than I am. We came to America because we knew we would have a better start at a new life. My family and I wanted to come to America, even before I was born. My family told me that they want to move to the U.S because they wanted to bring there children up in better conditions than what they had in Mexico City. My Father new what U.S. was like, because he had a chance to visit the states when he worked at one of his previous jobs. We got our chance to come over when my father migrated illegally and established work and a good job. He went through the process and became legal and then got us over when he became legal. My father came to America about 2 years after I was born, around 1972 and then got us over there 8 years later 1980.

Two year after we arrived in the Americas, my father died of a gun shot wound to the mid section. He got hit by a random bullet that someone shot in a drive by. It was hard to deal with my father’s death, because I was new to the U.S. and I was only 12 years old.

While talking to Jesus about this topic, it was hard for him to share more detail than what I got. He was very chocked up so I had to change the topic quickly.
