This page lists the options for purchasing a textbook
and online HW system. The instructions for accessing
the eText and HW system are below on this page.

We are using the 15th edition of University Physics
by Young and Freedman, along with Mastering Physics
with etext and Learning Catalytics (here is the
Pearson link for these materials).

We are using an inclusive access system from Pearson
and Brytewave that automatically gives you access
to the appropriate material approximately 5 days
before classes begin (so on about Aug 13).

After drop-add, your ASU account will be automatically
billed for these materials. If you do not wish to
participate in this system (i.e. you wish to purchase
the materials from another source), then you must
opt-out of the system by the end of drop-add (i.e. by
August 24, 2022).

Here is the information for this semester as provided
by the publisher:

The required material for this course will be
provisioned as an e-book and made available at a
discounted rate significantly cheaper than if
purchased directly from the publisher. If you
wish to take advantage of this discounted group
rate, no additional action is needed. Following
the drop/add period, a charge of $35.15, plus tax,
will post to your student account under the header
"Bkstr Publisher Negotiated Rate" and your access
will continue uninterrupted. If you'd rather
purchase the material from an alternate source,
you may choose to opt out of the program by using
this link:

Tempe Campus: https://includedcp.follett.com/1230

HERE ARE THE OPT-Out INSTRUCTIONS:

Go to the above link, then enter your ASU e-mail
address AS IT APPEARS IN THE ASU DIRECTORY
(https://asu.edu/directory), then follow the
instructions provided. Be aware that if
you do opt-out, your access to the HW system
with eText will be discontinued.

If you plan to opt-out, PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL
THE END OF DROP-ADD to use the opt-out instructions.
If you have any issues with either accessing MP or
following the opt-out instructions, please do not
contact your instructor. Instead, send an email
to asuinclusiveaccess@gmail.com.

with the Young and Freedman 15th Edition eText.

HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCESSING
YOUR HW SYSTEM with eText:

You can do nothing until you have received an
email from the ASU Bookstore. You should receive
the needed email approximately 5-days prior
to the start of class (so on about Aug 13 or 14):

Once you have received the email from the Boostore,
go to our Canvas homepage. There is a list of
tools on the left-hand side of that page. Select
Brytewave Course Materials, then click on the
MyLab title to generate a unique MyLab code.
Then copy and paste this code into the Pearson
Access tool.

(NOTE: If you get a "third-party cookies" error,
you can solve it via google; for example, if
you are using Firefox, go to google and enter
"firefox enable third party cookies for specific
sites". Google will give the needed instructions.)

During the sign-up process, you will be prompted to
enter your ASU Posting ID. Be sure to enter your
correct ASU Posting ID, which is 4 digits, followed
by a hyphen, followed by 3 digits. If you do not
enter the correct ASU Posting ID, you will never
get credit for your work at Mastering Physics.

What if I don't know my ASU Posting ID?

Once you are within the HW System, access the
etext by selected Pearson eText from the menu on
the left-hand side of the page.

Please see the tips for using Mastering Physics.

If you would like a hardcopy textbook, then
THE LOOSELEAF EDITION OF OUR TEXTBOOK IS STRONGLY
RECOMMENDED. Once you are inside your MP account
for our class, then select "eText" from the menu
on the left-hand border. The resulting eText page
then gives you the

opportunity to purchase the unbound edition

for $50 with free ground shipping. The shipping
may take two weeks, so purchase your looseleaf
edition as soon as possible. Until it arrives,
just read from the etext provided by MP. Once your
looseleaf edition arrives, I suggest putting it
into three separate 3-ring binders, one for
Mechanics (121), one for E&M (131), and one for
Thermodynamics and Modern Physics. I also suggest
that you get a small 3-ring binder, suitable for
one chapter at a time. Bring this small binder
with you to class, and make notes in the margins
when questions that you have about the reading
are answered during our lecture class.
Thanks much. GBA
