Old Town Avondale

For the purpose of this assignment we were to find a border within a border and hang out for a while take notes and perhaps talk with some of the people that we came across.  I have lived in the Metro-Phoenix area for about twenty years now and the concept of borders within borders is not a new one to me, I pass through the borders on a daily basis.

For this project I chose to go to old town Avondale, an area that I have recently discovered after relocating to the surrounding area from North Central Phoenix.  The strip of businesses in old town Avondale stretches from Dysart and Western to Litchfield and Western and they are primarily Mexican owned and run.  I invited my wife and nephew along because I thought that we could all benefit from the experience.  We visited a Panaderia and bought some great Mexican pastries and I took pictures of the many establishments in town such as the Super Carneceria, a Mexican ice cream parlor called La Michoacana, and a seafood restaurant.  Later we ate dinner at a taqueria and after dinner I purchased an old fashioned style, glass bottle of Coca-Cola that was made in Mexico.  The whole experience was a good one and the people that we talked with as we did our business were very friendly.  I plan to go back in the future to get more pastries and actually get some ice cream after dinner.
