Croatia: Flag and Anthem

My object's are pictures of my grandfather Joseph Crnkovich and grandmother Kate Crnkovich.  My grandfather's was taken in my home town of Mullan Idaho when he was the sheriff.  He and my grandmother Kate were from the same small village in Udbina Croatia.  However, they didn’t meet there.  My grandfather migrated to the U.S. via Canada when he was fifteen to find work.  He ended up in the Reno area working in the copper mines.  My grandmother had a brother that also lived in the Reno area, and she migrated via Ellis Island because she was considered an old maid at the young age of twenty-two.  She soon met my grandfather and they married.  They then moved to Mullan Idaho so my grandfather could work in the Lucky Friday silver mine.  After retirement from the mine, he became sheriff of Mullan.  These pictures represent my heritage and mean so much because they are two of the only physical objects I have of my heritage.  I do cherish them.  For more information on Croatia and Udbina please double click on the link MSN Encarta - Croatia

Croatia is a former Yugoslav republic on the Adriatic Sea. It is about the size of West Virginia. Part of Croatia is a barren, rocky region lying in the Dinaric Alps. The Zagorje region north of the capital, Zagreb, is a land of rolling hills, and the fertile agricultural region of the Pannonian Plain is bordered by the Drava, Danube, and Sava Rivers in the east. Over one-third of Croatia is forested.  If you look just west of the Bosnia and Herzegovina border, in the green area and just east of Karlobag, which is on the Adriatic coast, you will see Udbina.
