The Mediterranean Basin and Western Europes

The greater Mediterranean Basin and Western Europe provide a major geographical realm for archaeological research conducted by faculty members at Arizona State. Our investigations range across the modern human origins debate, the beginnings of agriculture, the rise and collapse of states and cities, the bioarchaeology of complex societies and the formation of cultural landscapes. ASU faculty maintain a highly visible international profile, directing active interdisciplinary research that addresses these topics in Cyprus, Ireland, Jordan and Spain.
