Symposium on the European Medieval Ballad, Fall 2010

harpistThis half-day plus luncheon symposium will feature three outstanding ballad scholars: Samuel Armistead (UC, Davis) on the Spanish medieval ballad; Patricia Fumerton (UC, Santa Barbara) on the English ballad tradition; and James Massengale (UCLA) on the medieval Swedish ballad. Following them will be aperformance of medieval ballads by the ASU Early Music Chamber Choir, directed by ASU Professor Catherine Saucier and assisted by School of Music Director Kimberly Marshall, both early music scholars.  Finally, a short question-and-answer panel will be moderated by Robert Bjork.The event will finish with a hosted buffet lunch.

This event will coincide with ACMRS’s annual fall symposium, which is open to the public at no cost. It will be held at ASU on Saturday, November 13, 2010.

Tentative Schedule: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
