Dear TAs: It has recently come to my attention that insipidly repetitive invective has
been overheard in the hallways on the third floor. While I am a devoted fan of
colorfully inventive and unusual forms of invective myself, the Department has a policy
against the use of insipidly repetitive forms in public spaces: hallways, stairs, and
other public places. The reason for this policy is simple: it is unprofessional (not to
mention obnoxious) to inflict it on innocent parties passing in the hall. It can also
contribute to creating a hostile atmosphere. Most importantly, it's simply in bad taste.
Please confine your use of insipidly repetitive invective, if you must use it, to a small
circle of intimates within private spaces. Your colleagues will thank you for it.
