I joined the Neuer Lab in summer 2009. I am an undergraduate currently seeking a B.S. in Biology and a minor in chemistry. I’m interested in the transport of phytoplankton from the euphotic zone to the deep oceans via the biological carbon pump. In the lab I use molecular methods to determine if phytoplankton DNA can be successfully extracted from zooplankton fecal pellets. I hope to investigate the role of these fecal pellets in carbon flux.
My past research experiences include the monitoring of a marine protected area (MPA) in Puerto Penasco, Mexico, and also the study of allelopathic interactions between sessile benthic organisms on a coral reef in Bonaire, NA.
In the future I plan to attend graduate school where I look forward to to studying marine biology or oceanography. Outside the lab I enjoy SCUBA diving, swimming, and riding my bike.
