Open Letter

When I originally signed up to take this class, I was not sure what to expect. I knew that it would fulfill one of the requirements of my Anthropology degree, but beyond that I did not really think about it too much. This class turned out to be very interesting as well as a lot of hard, but informative, work. I am an immigrant myself, but I just come from Canada where there really was not that much of a lifestyle change between here and there, just quirky little things, like the pronunciations and spellings of different words. This class opened my eyes to very different situations of migration that are occurring all over the world, both good and bad. I have always known about refugees, and living in Arizona you hear about people crossing the border illegally from Mexico almost every day. But this class really taught me to look into these situations more closely and about all of the different reasons why people feel they need to migrate to a country other than there own, whether voluntary or involuntary. This class was also very informative about the different organizations that are available to help the migrants. I am glad that I took this class. I feel that I am more informed about the world and maybe one day I can help to make a difference in the lives of some of these migrants as well.
