A Trip to Phoenix's 'Little China'

One of our assignments was to visit a “border” within the city of Phoenix.  I chose to visit the Chinese Cultural Center located at 668 N. 44th St. where I experienced a center devoted not only to preserving Chinese culture but also to catering to Phoenix’s Chinese population.  The center consists of several small businesses ranging from banks to record stores and even a large supermarket.  The architecture, gardens, and even the street lamps are of Chinese design making the center a standout within its surrounding community.  I did some shopping at the supermarket as many of the other businesses were closed.  Though the majority of the market’s customers were Asian, I was surprised by how many non-Asian customers there were since the majority of the market’s products were Chinese.  I ultimately left with tea, sweets, and some Saki as well as a unique experience of Phoenix’s own little China.
