My thoughts on the Semester

When I first started my college career, I wrote a research paper that was against immigration.  However as I think about this paper now I feel my view would be completely different.  Before this class I didn’t feel any sympathy for the Mexican migrant.  I thought if they die in the desert, it was their fault for coming across.  I didn’t understand that the Mexican community was being lied to about the walking distance.  I just assumed that it was common knowledge.  But after meeting the family at the Grupo Beta building, I became aware that they were being fed the wrong info.

Immigration is a big issue that we are dealing with right now and everyone has an opinion, but it seems that little people take a look at the bigger issue.

Before our trip to Mexico I always believed that Mexican pay matched their prices.  However after taking a look at their supermarket and comparing them to ours, I noticed that they have to work many days to pay for items that would only take them a couple of hours here on our minimum wage.

I only agreed to take this course because my advisor told me that it would count for global awareness credit.  But as we are ending the semester I am sure glad I listened to the advisor for I can now base my opinions on actual facts.
