We encourage children to build relationships of mutual trust and respect with adults and peers and to consider the feelings and needs of others. We aim to help children develop a positive self-concept, develop self-governance within a moral community and develop an awareness of and respect for diversity. As children play, they take initiative in individual and group pursuits expressing creativity in thoughts and actions. We foster children’s increased confidence in their individual abilities and a curiosity in the people, places and things in the environment.

Children engage in individual and group activities to become confident, fit, and active. Our curriculum also includes topics in nutrition, safety, and hygiene. Activities that use refined motor skills such as writing, drawing, and the use of scissors, are also apart of our daily curriculum.

Children learn to use problem solving approaches to investigate the materials, activities, ideas, and people in the environment. They collect, sort, arrange and analyze collections comparing similarities and differences. They are encouraged to work with mathematical concepts and explore the physical world.

Children represent ideas and feelings through the creative arts. On-site activities include collage, painting, and working with clay. Our preschool often partners with the Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts to learn about puppetry and drama, as well as music and movement.

Children learn to use language to communicate effectively with others. Experience with diverse languages within this multi-cultural preschool environment encorages children to gain a wider concept of language. Daily story time helps children develop an appreciation and understanding of the written word. The use of emergent writing skills such as dictating a story or the construction of a sign during block play, helps children understand the importance of print and writing for their personal use.
