Preschool Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

We are located on the ASU Tempe campus in the Farmer Education building Room #104 (North of the Grady Gammage Performing Arts Building).

Do you have a wait list?

We have an “Interest Wait List” and in February and March we contact this list but during this time we enroll following “First Come, First Served” so there are spaces for new children.

When do you start taking enrollment for the following school year?

We start taking enrollments during February and March for the following school year. We also offer a summer camp program. We enroll children in the camp at this time as well.

When is a good time to take a tour?

The best time to take a tour is during the beginning of the year, January or February for the following school year. By calling 480-965-2510 we can make an appointment for you to see the classrooms and meet the staff. The best time to take a tour is between 8:45 and 11:45 in the morning and 3-4:30 in the afternoon. We have lunch and naps at 12-2:30 PM.

Do you just take children of ASU staff, faculty or students?

The preschool is open to the public as well as to ASU parents. Any child who is 2 ½ to five years of age is eligible. Children need to be potty trained before attending.

Do you take children with special needs?

Yes, we embrace diversity and strive to enable all children to reach their potential. We believe all children have gifts and all children have challenges. Together we can achieve what we need for life long discovery, social skills and respect for others.

What is the ratio of adults to children?

We have a ratio of 6 children to 1 adult. Each classroom has a lead teacher, an assistant teacher and a student aide.

What kind of experience and education do your teachers have?

Our lead teachers have an extraordinary amount of early childhood experience as well as a degree in early childhood education; our assistant teachers are graduate students attending ASU in early childhood or a similar field. Our student aides are either a freshman up to a senior in undergraduate degree either in early childhood or a variety of fields.

Do you follow the ASU calendar?

Yes, we follow the ASU academic calendar. Two thirds of our staff attend ASU as students and are not present during breaks to help with the preschool. We are out for fall break, winter break, spring break and the national holidays.

Where do I park when dropping off or picking up my child?

Parents park in one of four twenty minute loading zones directly in front of our building. In addition parents can park in one of the numerous metered parking spots. We also have a designated space in the Gammage parking lot #3 for those parents who are volunteering for the day or for parents who can’t find one of the other options. We also provide curb-side service to parents with sleeping siblings and/or for other emergencies.

As you teach through “Learning through Play” how do your graduated children do in kindergarten?

We are dedicated to the continued success of our graduated children and check with parents to see how their child is doing. We find that “our children” are curious life-long learners with academic initiative and positive social skills. References are available upon request.
