I am an undergraduate pursuing a BS in Microbiology with minors in Mathematics and Geological Sciences. I joined the Neuer lab in Fall 2008. My research includes sampling several Arizona lakes with a focus on measuring dissolved organic carbon and nitrogen, and the way various chemical and biological parameters interact in the different reservoirs.
This work will lead to marine biogeochemical studies in graduate school, after which I intend to pursue a career in Oceanography. My interests in this area focus on transformations of matter in various extreme marine ecosystems (such as arctic sea ice, subduction zones, and hydrothermal vents). I hope to study both geochemical and biological processes and the interaction of organic and inorganic processes under these harsh conditions.
